We understand one of you moved to the UK, how did that affect you guys as a duo? and being in separate countries, what differences do you see in the EDM scenes on each end?
Yes one of us did move to the UK due to living circumstances in America. This has really changed me and the other Mad Villain's relationship. We still communicate, but to be honest, its just me who's DJ'ing and making the beats now. Im not complaining, shit happens. Just gotta do what you gotta do. The UK doesnt really have an "EDM" scene, House Music & UK Garage is whats been trending here for years, and it will continue to trend. Theres also a big Drum N Bass scene here as well, but i'd definitely say House is on Top.
If you were given a chance to collaborate with anyone (EDM or non-EDM) who would you collaborate with & why?
I would love to do a collab with Broke One. Me and him have very similar tastes from what i hear in his music. I would make many collabs with that guy if i had the chance. He is one of my favorite House producers at the moment.
What is the most significant moment in your DJ/Producing career? Wether it be a gig or a message from somebody you look up to, etc..
I think the most successful thing i have done in my DJ/Producing career is randomly move to the UK and instantly make connections to get bookings for big events even though i didnt really know anyone. After being here for only a year, i am now getting booked to play festivals and huge events, with some of the top House DJ's around the world.
Where did the name Mad Villains come from?
Was just chillen stoned, at the other Mad Villains house at the beginning of our career, and honestly just came to my head randomly. So we stuck with it. Unfortunately, later on down the line, i found out MF Doom + Madlib already have an alias called Madvillain. So i feel like im stealing their name in a way, but i really dont wanna change my name, or start a new alias, cause the Mad Villains name has already gotten itself around the globe, but looking at it optimistically, loads of artists out there have the same name, So its not nothing im gonna stress about.
If you weren’t DJ’ing or Producing, what would you be doing?
Fuck Knows. Watching Porn everyday.
How did you guys meet & why did you guys decide to become a duo?
We met through Skating at the skatepark when we was like 12, but i didnt become close with him til we was about 14-15. I was already producing music before we started Mad Villains. But i didnt know how to DJ. Over time i realized me and him have the exact same taste in music and style, so i told him we should start DJ'ing together, and he was down with it!
What equipment & DAW do you run on when producing? How about when DJ’ing?
Nothing special. I Produce in Ableton on my mac, and i have my monitors and midi keyboard set up in the Office in my house. Not the greatest room to produce in, but itll do for now until i get famous. lol .
What artists do you see making a major breakthrough in 2013?
Im not too sure really. alot of artists in america are constantly hopping on bandwagons, so its hard to tell at the moment.
What advice would you give up & coming Producers?
Educate yourself. Put pride and dedication into your work. Dont be quick to jump on the next bandwagon, be creative and try to start your own little style of music, and let your name be known for that. Dont half ass, or rush through projects to get songs up on soundcloud every week, take your time. & most importantly, make sure whatever music you are making is gonna drop some Panties!
Since the legal drinking age over there is 18, do you ever drink on the job? If so what is your favorite drink?
Everytime i go to DJ, i drink. I rarely ever get drunk though. I just prefer to 420 blaze it to be honest. My favorite drink that i have just discovered out here, is a beer called "Desperados." Its the best tasting beer ever. It has a nice Apple taste to it.
